福岡ダンスフリンジフェスティバルは、今回で開催10回目を迎えます。

福岡ダンスフリンジフェスティバル 〜ダンスの発火点〜 とは
●新進気鋭の振付家・ダンサーの、作品発表・実験の場であること
●多様で新しいダンスをさまざまな角度から楽しむ・探究する場であること
●振付家・ダンサーおよびダンスに関心のある人の交流の場であること
を目指し、出演作品を日本全国・アジア諸国はもちろん世界各国から募集し開催するダンスの一大イベントです。
海外のフェスティバルやディレクターともネットワークを結び、毎年このフェスティバルをきっかけにいくつかの作品が海外に招聘されています。

The festival has developed into an important event, and works of dance are being submitted from all over Japan, Asia, and the world. Since Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival has ties to a network of dance festivals and their directors, performances at the festival have lead to performers and works being invited to other festivals outside of Japan. We invite you to seize this opportunity and submit a work for consideration.

私たちの福岡ダンスフリンジフェスティバル（FDFF）は、岸辺で遊んでいたラッコが、大・小の波にもまれていつのまにか大海に出るように、10周年を迎えようとしています。振り返れば、巻き戻したように思い出が広がり、一つ一つがあたかもシャボン玉の中の動く極小の世界で、胸が熱くなりました。みなさま、ほんとうに有難うございました。この感激を胸に、みなさまに一層喜ばれ、楽しんでいただけるダンスフェスティバルをめざして歩んでいきます。これからもみなさまのご支援を賜りますよう、どうぞよろしくお願い申し上げます。
FDFFvol.10は、国内外の見逃せないダンスの魅力満載の作品を、力の限り集めました。ぜひ、ご来場いただきますようお願い申し上げます。
Just like baby otters playing by the beach eventually learn to swim through the turbulent ocean, our very own Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival (FDFF) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. When I look back upon the years, every memory comes back to me so vividly and my heart is full of emotions. I am so grateful for everyone who has helped us come this far. This emotion inspires me to create an even better, further enjoyable dance festival as we move forward. I hope you continue to follow our work in the future. This year, FDFF vol.10 has put together the hottest works of dance from within and outside of Japan. We can’t wait for you to experience the pieces at this year’s festival!

初期の福岡フリンジは、1日で30以上の作品を上演し、休憩は数回のみという、まるで耐久レースのようなハードさだった。「多くの作品を上演させたい」との思いからだが、通常こういう「親心」は質の低下を招く。だが福岡フリンジが10年も続いたのはなぜかといえば、アジアとの連携だった。10年前、ソウル・ダンスコレクションで唯一の外国人審査員で招かれていたオレが日本のディレクターに連携を呼びかけたとき、いち早く、そして唯一手を挙げてくれたのがスウェインさんだったのである。
そこからはすごかった。素晴らしいスタッフたちと共に、またたく間にアジア各国のフェスと繋がり、日本でも有数のアジアと連携するフェスに成長させていった。
素晴らしい10年間である。しかしフリンジは「巧さよりも、強さ」を求める。さらなる「強いダンス」のために、次の一歩を踏み出していこうぜ！
In the first few years of Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival, I recall the shows were quite a grind. Somehow they put on 30 performances into one day, with only a few breaks, and it felt like an endurance battle. The thought behind it was to give as many performance opportunities to young dancers as the festival could, but on the other hand were hindering growth and quality by accepting everything. The reason FDFF continued for ten years is because the festival connected with the rest of Asia. Ten years ago, when I was invited to Seoul Dance Collection as the only foreign judge, the first and only director that was willing to collaborate with me was Yoshiko Swain. What ensued after that is history. Supported by a wonderful crew, FDFF quickly connected with other dance festivals all over Asia, and grew into one of the most recognized dance festivals in Japan and Asia. It’s been an incredible decade. FDFF looks for strength and perseverance over technical perfection. I’m excited to start the journey towards more “strong” dances.
