福岡ダンスフリンジフェスティバル 〜ダンスの発火点〜 とは

The upcoming “Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival―the ignition point of dance” is the 12th Fringe Festival since its beginnings in 2008. The Festival aims to be

  • A venue where choreographers and dancers can experiment

  • stage where new and diverse works of dance are enjoyed and studied from many perspectives

  • A meeting place for choreographers, dancers, and others with interest in the performing arts

The festival has developed into an important event, and works of dance are being submitted from all over Japan, Asia, and the world. Since Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival has ties to a network of dance festivals and their directors, performances at the festival have lead to performers and works being invited to other festivals outside of Japan. We invite you to seize this opportunity and submit a work for consideration.

Yoshiko Swain(Founder and Artistic Director of FDFF )

Thanks to all of your support, Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival (FDFF) is celebrating its 12th installment this year. A silent voice leaps out of the body, and wants to absorb more dance! Like the eternal spring of vitality, dance has been passed down through the ages since ancient times. Though dance itself is frail like a butterfly's wings, sometimes it beats in synchrony with a trembling soul. Sometimes it gives us energy to live, and sometimes it summons miracles. Every year at FDFF, we showcase a diverse selection of excellent dance from Japan and beyond. Our platform focuses on sharing the depth and joy of dance as much as possible. We are committed to continue our evolution to serve artist and dance, and we thank you for your continued support!

Takao Norikoshi(Adviser of FDFF / Writer, Critic of Performing Arts)

This year, Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival has been extended to 6 days. The scope of the festival is growing, and the programming will naturally become even richer. For those looking at the micro-level, it might be hard to see the macro level of Japanese dance which is rapidly changing, due to increased networking with other Asian countries. That growth is bringing about not only the possibility of new physical expression, but also more opportunities to dance. It’s important to position oneself in within that flow towards the new. FDFF is one of the best festivals in Japan with rich connections with many Asian festivals. Be there, and be connected!
